Heath Tarber, the chairman of the CFTC, said ether is a commodity, rather than a security. So reports the Coindesk.

Tarber made the remarks at the Yahoo! Finance All Markets Summit. Ether, by market cap, is the second largest cryptocurrency in the world. The CFTC chairman also indicated ether futures may be traded in U.S. markets.
