Crypto Guru Who Admitted Helping N. Korea Beat Sanctions Sent to Prison

Virgil Griffith, a cryptocurrency expert and “well-known” hacker, was given a five-plus year prison sentence after allegedly aiding North Korea in evading U.S. sanctions. So reports the Journal Record.

gavel 3577258 640 smallGriffith pleaded guilty to conspiracy and admitted to presenting at a Pyongyang conference even though he was denied permission to travel there. Griffith advised “more than 100 people–including several who appeared to work for the North Korean government” on how cryptocurrency can be used to shirk sanctions and achieve “independence from the global banking system.”
